totesport League Division One
May 1
Lancashire Lightning 178-8
Notts Outlaws 177-6 (Fleming 60, Gallian 53)
Lancashire Lightning won by one run
We looked all set to claim the victory in the totesport League thanks to half-centuries from Stephen Fleming and Jason Gallian, but with eight needed off the final two overs Mark Ealham and Gareth Clough came up just short.
Newell said: ?I?m amazed that we managed to throw that game away. It was ridiculous really. We needed either Fleming or Gallian to be there at the close but nevertheless should have won the match pretty easily.?
After overnight rain reduced the game to 43 overs each, tight bowling from Graeme Swann helped keep the home total to 178-8 and Fleming?s 60 from 62 balls had us well on the way.
But three wickets in the middle order fell for six runs and we never recovered the momentum.
Newell added: ?We have to be honest and say we made a hash of it. After playing good cricket for three-quarters of the match we buckled under the pressure.
?The only good thing is that we have an immediate chance to get this defeat out of our system and I hope Glamorgan will feel the backlash.?
