C & G Trophy round two
May 18: Sussex v Notts
Notts 195-9 (Patel 61*, Fleming 50)
Sussex 197-6 (Ealham 2-24, Sidebottom 2-26)
Sussex won by four wickets
Newell admitted he was extremely frustrated to see our batsmen fail again in one-day cricket and will look at the batting line-up and our tactics with Stephen Fleming next week.
He said: "It's very difficult for me to watch our top order struggle repeatedly when they are proving so strong in the Championship.
"We haven't got a one-day game for 10 days so we'll forget about it for a week and then I?ll sit down with Fleming, look at the whole situation and decide what we want to do.
"All the options will be considered and everything is up in the air - the personnel, batting order and our tactics."
We collapsed to 12-3 and 111-8 against Sussex and only some stunning late hitting from Samit Patel, who smashed four sixes and three fours in his unbeaten 61 from 52 balls, prevented total embarrassment.
Although Ryan Sidebottom and Mark Ealham produced great spells with the new ball and left the hosts wobbling, our shortage of bowlers was made to tell as we went down by four wickets.
Added Newell: "We were well short of a total we could defend. It was a scruffy innings that never got any momentum until Patel started hitting out.
"He's done very well for us twice now and we need to think about his role in the team so we can get more out of him.
"Sidebottom and Ealham started well but I think Sussex knew we were a seamer short, saw them off and survived the early scare to win pretty comfortably."
