Notts seamer Ian Saxelby has been added to the England Under 19’s squad to face Bangladesh ‘A’ after taking five wickets in the Second XI draw against Lancashire.
Saxelby’s figures of 5-64 from 21 overs frustrated a strong Lancashire side that included Paul Horton and Iain Sutcliffe and prompted Notts Coach Wayne Noon to recommend him for a call up following the withdrawal of Middlesex’s Steven Finn.
“Ian and Luke Fletcher were outstanding in the game and are coming on in leaps and bounds,” said Noon.
“They both need to knuckle down and work towards earning a place in the Notts Outlaws side for the Pro 40 competition and they are deserving of their place in the England side to face Bangladesh.”
The game at Liverpool CC was cut short by rain but an accomplished bowling performance saw Lancashire dismissed for before openers Matt Wood (72) and Alex Hales (54) helped Notts to a total of 236-8 before rain ended the contest.
“Matt and Alex batted very well against three Lancashire staff seamers but the rain affected the game on the second day and we lost five wickets in the 20 overs that were possible,” said Noon.
“There were some good individual performances and if the weather had prevailed we would have fancied our chances of winning the game.”
