David Hussey is looking to add to his collection of great memories with Notts when he gets his short spell as overseas player underway against Derbyshire Phantoms at Trent Bridge tomorrow (play starts 5.30pm).
Hussey will take his place in the Outlaws line-up against their local rivals after arriving from Australia on Wednesday, as temporary cover for Adam Voges, who has returned home to play for Australia A against Pakistan A.
“I love playing for Notts and have some great memories of my time here," said Hussey.
“I'm excited to be back and I got a real buzz just from going up to the dressing room today to unpack my gear. Hopefully I can help the team push on for a top three spot in the North Group in the Twenty20 Cup, before the three Championship games I'm available for.
“I know Chris Rogers and Stuart Law at Derbyshire and they are two classy performers. The aim will be to get them out cheaply and try and keep the momentum going from the two wins earlier this week.”
Hussey comes into the Notts squad in place of Ryan Sidebottom, who has now joined England's pre-Ashes training camp.
The Australian was always a vocal supporter of Sidebottom's international credentials during his four-year spell at Trent Bridge from 2004-07 and is also pleased to see fellow team-mates Stuart Broad and Graeme Swann playing for England.
He said: “Sid always played well during my time here and I'm surprised it took so long for him to be picked by England.
“I don't know too much about Stuart Broad but from what I've seen on television he's going to be an international star for years to come.
“And I'm just wrapped to see Swanny doing so well - he's a top bloke and deserves his chance.”
Hussey himself has still not made the step up from One-Day Internationals to the Test arena, but admits the chance to play county cricket while the Ashes is on can't harm his chances.
“I've got half an eye on the Ashes - I noticed that Shane Watson had an injury problem recently - and perhaps if I can score a few runs and help Notts win a few games, I'll keep my name in the frame if there are any further injury worries,” he said.
“I had a week or so at home after the ICC World Twenty20, which was enough for me to rest up and have a few skills sessions just to get my game in order.
“But I always want to play and as soon as Mick Newell asked me if I wanted to come back, it was just a case of sorting out the details and I was hopping back on the plane.”
Ali Brown and Matt Wood will open once more after Wednesday's county record stand of 119 for the first wicket.
Advance tickets for the match cost £12 for adults, £7 for juniors and senior citizens and £31 for a family of two adults and two under-16s and can be purchased here or from the Trent Bridge Ticket Office on 0870 168 8888 until 4pm today.
