Notts Outlaws face an uphill battle to keep their Friends Provident Trophy campaign alive after being bowled out for 189 against Gloucestershire Gladiators at Bristol.

A nightmare start saw Ali Brown, Alex Hales and Mark Wagh all return to the pavilion before the scoreboard had reached double figures, and the visitors were always swimming against the tide from there.

Adam Voges and Samit Patel saw off the threatening new ball partnership of Jon Lewis and Steve Kirby only for Patel to drive left-arm spinner Vikram Banerjee to mid-on for 12, with Will Jefferson lbw to former Notts seamer Ian Saxelby soon after.

Voges made 25 before he was caught off the bowling of Chris Taylor but skipper Chris Read and Mark Ealham dug in with a partnership of 62 to push the score to 149.

Both were dismissed by the returning Lewis, who was then hit for 20 off four balls by Andre Adams who smacked 30 off 15 balls in an entertaining cameo.

The end followed soon after with Ryan Sidebottom caught in the slips, and Notts fans will hope the England quick bowler can produce the goods with the ball if they are to defy the odds and go through for a semi-final meeting with Sussex.
