Trent Bridge has won widespread praise after successfully acting as one of three host venues for the ICC World Twenty20.
More than 100,000 spectators came through the gates over the course of two days of warm-up games and six match days, culminating in yesterday’s exciting Women’s semi-final between New Zealand and India and the Men’s semi-final between South Africa and Pakistan.
And tournament director Steve Elworthy said: “Nottingham has been absolutely brilliant. They have pulled out all the stops. I can’t give them enough praise - they have been fantastic.
“The teams have commented on how well it has been run at Trent Bridge. I am extremely proud of them.”
In a true team effort across the city, special bus services were laid on from the city centre, with events and banners celebrating Nottingham as a host city, while 250 volunteers directed visitors around the ground.
It was estimated before the tournament began that it would bring in about £10m to the region’s hotels, restaurants and businesses.
Notts chief executive Derek Brewer said: “This has been an example of what the city can do. We have shown that Nottingham can stage a massive global event and it has been a fantastic experience.
“We have had spectators from all sorts of different places. We have had capacity crowds. You see people wandering around in their cricket shirts. There has been a real festival feel to it.”
