Notts spinner Graeme Swann says that the absence of Andrew Strauss won’t detract from England’s ability to earn victories in three Twenty20 internationals against South Africa.
Strauss was a central figure in wins over Diamond Eagles and The Warriors to give England’s tour a solid start but he’ll sit out until the Test series begins giving Paul Collingwood another opportunity to lead his country.
"Obviously it is different when you've got a different guy in charge, but we've all played with Colly in Twenty20s before, we all know what to expect,” said Swann.
"I don't think it will alter things that greatly. In Twenty20, it's a bit helter-skelter anyway.
"The captain's job is more to just make sure everyone's in place on time to get through, so that we're not slow on the overate so we'll all be trying to help him out in that regard."
Kevin Pietersen is due to arrive in South Africa today having recovered from an Achilles tendon injury.
"I don't know what the situation is with Kevin and how close he is to being fit but I think it's exciting for us to know that he's going to come back in,” said Swann.
"He's a massive personality and a massive player. It's going to be good for the team from a playing perspective because he's one of the best players in the world."
"He’s had a bit of time off and everyone is in good form. You never know, he might even have to fight for his place when he gets here and that’s something which he hasn’t had to do for a long time."
