Opening the second innings alongside Neil Edwards, Franks took the chance to underline his determination to succeed Mark Ealham as an effective number eight batsman with a flurry of fours before falling for 114.
Edwards (43) and Samit Patel (37) made decent contributions to Nottinghamshire’s declared second innings total of 291-6 from 50 overs.
Franks then dismissed Durham opener Seren Waters as Durham reached 53-1 from 16 overs.
Ryan Sidebottom didn’t bowl on the final day but will feature for Notts against Kent in Thursday’s LV= County Championship match at Trent Bridge.
