With the second day lost to rain Notts left their visitors 350 to win from a minimum of 85 overs on the third & final day as both sides forfeited innings to set up a run chase.
Luke Fletcher extended his unbeaten overnight 101 by five runs before edging to the keeper for 106. Jake Ball hit lustily for 46 hitting four sixes and three fours.
The declaration came with debutant wicketkeeper Steve Crossley on 18 not out while Ross Whiteley was the leading wicket taker for Derbyshire with 3-56.
Notts had early success as Derbyshire started their chase losing Borrington and Park to Ball and Fletcher respectively with just 16 on the board.
However further wickets were hard to come by as Ben Slater and Daniel Redfern added 96 for the third wicket before Slater (39) edged Graeme White's first ball to Bilal Shafayat at slip.
Redfern departed at 166 for a stylish 77 from 96 balls trapped leg before by Jonathan Miles.
A stand of 128 between Frith and Hughes then tilted the game in the visitors’ favour. Frith was going well and reached 91 before chancing a single to White who threw down the wicket from point to run him out.
His partner Hughes fell three runs later for 53 caught behind by Crossley off Fletcher. At 297-6 with some thirteen overs remaining the game was now in the balance.
Ross Whiteley and Jake Needham joined forces in a seventh wicket stand of 38. Needham (17) was caught behind by Crossley off Miles with 16 needed.
Whiteley steered Derbyshire over the line to be not out on 31 with 3.5 overs of the game left.
