This Friday sees the one of the crowning glories of the Nottinghamshire Premier League season as it holds its Twenty20 Finals Day at Trent Bridge.
Four clubs will be vying for the chance to be crowned the County Twenty20 Champions and progress into the national competition. The action kicks off at 10.45 am when Clifton take on the West Indian Cavaliers in the first semi-final.
The second semi final sees last year’s Nottinghamshire Twenty20 Champions Cuckney, take on Rolls Royce Leisure who gained their spot by winning the play-off between the champions of the South Notts and Bassetlaw leagues.
The final between the two winning sides will take place at 5.00 pm under floodlights and all games will be played with the new pink ball that the MCC has been testing for possible use in day/night matches.
The games promise to be close and hard-fought; Clifton has named a strong but young squad that looks to the future and includes Dan Birch, the Premier League’s leading run scorer and former Derbyshire player. Their opponents, West Indian Cavaliers have also named a very strong squad that includes former England star Alex Tudor who played on the ground in the 2001 Ashes Test.
Cuckney progressed from winning the Nottinghamshire finals last year right through to the final of the national competition played at the County Ground, Derby last September. They are captained by Richard Stroh who played such a big role in last year’s success. They take on a talented Rolls Royce side that are untried at this level of competition but the evidence of their progress this far, are capable of providing a few upsets.
Admission to the event is free of charge and the Dixon Gates will be open from 10.15 am and seating will be available in front of the Pavilion.
