Half-centuries from Mark Wagh and Ali Brown helped Nottinghamshire post a first innings total of 328 against Warwickshire.
Chris Read (45), David Hussey (32) and Samit Patel (34) also made decent contributions on a pitch that Brown considers to be favourable to
seam bowlers.
“I was a bit surprised when I heard that we were batting first but I reckon 270 is par on that pitch and we’ve posted a decent score,” he said.
“The ball was nipping around and I don’t think any of our batsmen ever felt fully ‘in’.
“The weather that we’re anticipating tomorrow could make for even more swing and seam movement and if we put the ball in the right areas then we can look to get them out for less.”
The Warwickshire attack beat the bat from the outset and Rikki Clarke was guilty of two dropped slip catches, missing a golden opportunity to dismiss Hussey for nought after failing to grasp a half-chance provided by opener Matt Wood.
Ryan Sidebottom dug in to score 18 not out to help Notts claim a third batting bonus point.
Chris Woakes and Boyd Rankin each took three wickets and Warwickshire closed on 13 without loss having negotiated six overs at the end of the evening session.
