Chris Read has been granted a move up the Notts Outlaws batting order after putting himself forward for additional responsibility in the absence of an overseas player.
Notts face Kent in Sunday's Clydesdale Bank 40 fixture at Canterbury and have included Luke Fletcher and Scott Elstone in their 12-man squad.
"David has been our best batsman during his time here and we need players to step up and take more responsibility," said Nottinghamshire Director of Cricket Mick Newell.
"It was Chris' idea to bat at five and he's more than capable of doing so."
Steven Mullaney will be keen to impress after missing selection for Nottinghamshire's two day victory over Warwickshire whilst Ryan Sidebottom and Darren Pattinson will hope to lead the seam attack.
