Andre Adams was the dominant figure in a bowling attack bolstered by England internationals Stuart Broad, Graeme Swann and Ryan Sidebottom as Nottinghamshire dismissed Warwickshire for 313 before cruising to 18 without loss.
Boyd Rankin’s run out denied Neil Carter a deserved century as the number nine batsman was left unbeaten on 99. Warwickshire had slipped to 157-7 before Carter built a solid partnership with Imran Tahir.
Adams’ haul included the scalps of Westwood, Clarke and Woakes as the visiting attack chipped away with regular success.
Broad claimed a three-wicket haul whilst Swann (2-88) and Sidebottom (1-81) were also amongst the wickets.
In reply, Alex Hales scored 16 singles to Samit Patel’s one as Notts emerged satisfied with their performance on the opening day.
