James Anderson recorded his third five wicket haul in a Trent Bridge Test as England took control against Pakistan on day two.

Pakistan closed on 147-9 and still require eight more runs to avoid the follow-on.

Satisfied with their morning’s work in ending a 219 run stand between Eoin Morgan and Paul Collingwood before claiming the final six England wickets for just 17 runs, Pakistan’s joy proved short-lived as Anderson bounced back from his first ball duck to return 5-49.

"My birthday didn't start great when I was out first ball but the wickets made up for it and I'm very happy,” said Anderson.

"Certain grounds seem to swing every time you come and this is one of them - Trent Bridge has been good to me on our last couple of visits here.

"It always feels fantastic when you take five wickets. I feel I've been bowling pretty well but going through a patch when the wickets haven't been coming. Hopefully, I can give it a big push now.”

Steven Finn underlined his effectiveness with 3-20 whilst Stuart Broad bowled Danish Kaneria.
