Nottinghamshire all-rounder Paul Franks has signed a new two year deal at Trent Bridge that commits him to the club until the end of the 2012 season.
Franks has maintained good form in the LV= County Championship with 404 runs and 29 wickets to his name this year.
“It means everything to me to play for Nottinghamshire and I’ve always maintained that I will never leave Trent Bridge of my own accord,” he said.
“Paul Johnson was the club captain when I broke into the team here and he set the example by staying at one club for his entire career and that’s something that I’d be proud to achieve.
“Fitness and form willing, I’ve got at least five more years in the game and I want to spend that time with Notts.”
Franks waited patiently behind established all-rounder Mark Ealham last season but has now firmly entrenched himself in the number eight spot in Nottinghamshire’s batting line-up.
“I have had to bide my time and wait patiently for a regular place in the team but I’ve got the backing of the coach and the captain and that has allowed me to focus on my own performances and make contributions,” he said.
“We’re challenging for silverware on three fronts and winning the Championship would be the ultimate accolade because I didn’t play as much as I would have liked when we enjoyed success in 2005.”
Notts face Sussex Sharks at Trent Bridge in Monday’s Friends Provident t20 quarter-final (play starts 7.25pm) and Franks has called on supporters to unite behind the team.
“We’ve been very consistent in our Twenty20 matches at Trent Bridge this season and reaching finals day would give our players and supporters something to look forward to,” he said.
“We’ve seen a massive improvement in our fielding this season, the bowlers have been consistent and our batsmen have played their shots and now it’s about us being better than Sussex on Monday.”
