Alex Hales enhanced his chances of a first team call up with a confident double hundred for Nottinghamshire’s Second Eleven Championship Match against MCCYC at Lady Bay.

Two spots are on offer in the team to face Hampshire at Trent Bridge from Monday with Hashim Amla having left to join his South African team mates in the West Inides and Mark Wagh set to miss the fixture to sit his law exams.

Hales seems certain to be included with Akhil Patel, Matthew Wood and Andre Adams vying for the other available place.

“We’re playing on a good wicket and I was fortunate enough to cash in but others have showed good form so there are some good options for Mick to consider,” said Hales.

“Scott Elstone has had a good season so far in the second eleven and Akhil Patel had some time in the middle in this game and we’re all keen to step up.

“I’d like to think that I’m in with a good chance of playing against Hampshire but Hashim’s shoes will be difficult to fill because he has been superb during his time here.”

Notts Second Eleven scored 597 runs on the second day of their Championship game against MCCYC. The visitors attack was put to the sword by Hales and Akhil Patel and then Scott Elstone put the icing on the cake with a rapid century
 
Hales and Patel had a first wicket stand of 342 from just 67 overs. Hales was the dominant partner scoring 202 as he smote the bowling to all parts of the ground as only he can do when at his stylish best. 154 runs came in boundaries with eleven sixes in just 199 balls, when he was out Patel's share of the partnership was 98 having faced fifteen more deliveries.
 
Hales scored his 100 in 124 balls & his double ton in a further 73 balls before he was stumped
 
Reaching his hundred from 225 balls, Patel went after the bowling and took his score to 162 in a further 76 deliveries hitting 92 in boundaries including two sixes.
 
Coming in at 453-3, Scott Elstone added 102 for the fourth wicket with Sam Kelsall (25), reaching his hundred from 85 balls with 66 in boundaries.
 
Notts decided to bat out the day with Jake Ball hitting three maximums in his 28 not out as the home side finished with a lead of 329.
