Second Eleven Championship
Day One - Notts Sports Club
MCCYC 292 Notts 24-0
Former MCC Young Cricketers seamer Jonathan Miles took four wickets for Nottinghamshire Second Eleven on the first day of their Championship fixture.
The 24 year old is on trial with Notts and caught they eye with tidy spells to finish with 4-41 with MCCYC all out for 292.
“Jonathan is playing for the ECB Unicorns in the Clydesdale Bank 40 competition and if he continues to impress in this match I’ll ask him to stay with us for the next two weeks so we can have a closer look at him,” said Second Eleven Manager Wayne Noon.
“He bowls with good control and swings it in and with the injuries we have in the seam bowling department he is a player worthy of consideration.”
This game was a spectatcle of ‘proper cricket’ where on a flat pitch offering little help to the bowlers they had to bowl accurately and the batsman had to work for their runs.
MCC Young cricketers won the toss and batted and, in the main, owed their total to a solid hundred by Ned Eckersley who came in at the fall of the second wicket with the score on 89. He was seventh out at 287 for 104 having added 106 for the 4th wicket with Paul Muchall (39). He scored 56 in boundaries in his stay at the crease of just under four hours facing 186 deliveries.
Notts did not help themselves with several missed chances in the slips but from 245-4 MCCYC lost their last six wickets for 47 after the new ball had been taken.
Miles bowled impressively taking 4-41 and Jake Ball returned 3-78.
Facing seven overs, Akhil Patel and Alex Hales saw Notts safely through to the close adding 24 runs.
