Nottinghamshire have been crowned LV= County Champions after fending off Somerset's bid for glory by securing the required bonus point haul at Old Trafford.
Needing 400 runs and three wickets following Somerset's draw at The Emirates, nerves were shredded as Ryan Sidebottom and Darren Pattinson completed the run compilation following stellar knocks from Adam Voges and Samit Patel.
Andre Adams and Ryan Sidebottom then secured the three wickets required to allow Notts to secure their first LV= County Championship crown since 2005.
"I'm very proud," said Nottinghamshire Director of Cricket Mick Newell.
"To win it like that, people will look at it as an honest and fair way to win.
"We had to work hard to get there. Lancashire gave full commitment and fielded like a Twenty20 game.
"There's been a number of times when I couldn't see us winning it - last week at Yorkshire, 59 all out was a disaster for us, then this morning.
"We've been criticised in the last couple of weeks for bottling it, so to come up with a performance like that, I'm very very pleased."
Nottinghamshire captain Chris Read proclaimed the triumph to rank amongst the greatest days of his professional career.
"We had to have positive thoughts and we had to go one way or the other," said Read.
"The vast majority just said let's go out and bash 400 and take three wickets.
"Last night a lot of the guys got together and had a chat about what we should do. This morning we were devastated to see we weren't going to start on time because we thought it might scupper our plans.
"But we decided on balance the best route was to back ourselves to get 400."
David Hussey was amongst the first to congratulate the Notts dressing room having watched live coverage from South Africa where he is preparing for the Champions League.
"I watched the game all afternoon and I was certainly very nervous when we were nine down needing 400 runs but the boys pulled through and I'm delighted for them," said Hussey.
"Chris Read has had a fantastic season and the form of Andre Adams kept them in the hunt throughout.
"I'm so happy that they have won the title because all of the boys and the coaching staff thoroughly deserve it."
Dressing room sources also hinted that Notts may yet resurrect contract talks with Ryan Sidebottom. Sidebottom has been in discussions with other clubs since the breakdown of negotiations but is yet to commit to a new county.
