Second Eleven Championship - Day two of three
Durham (403-6 dec & 73-4) lead Notts (453-7 dec) by 23 runs with 6 second innings wickets remaining
A late burst by the Notts pace bowlers in the last session of the day gave them a chance of victory on the last day , as on a still perfect pitch for batting ,they made inroads in to the visitors second innings.
Adam Shepherd took two wickets in each of his first two overs, Jake Ball snatched one in his third over and a fine throw from Rikki Wessels to Adeel Shafique ran out the dangerous Kyle Coetzer to leave Durham on 16-4.
Ben Harmison and Keaton Jennings, the top scorers in the first innings, halted the Notts momentum as they finished the day 23 ahead.
Notts batsmen took full advantage of the conditions to take a first innings lead of 50.
All the batsmen helped themselves to runs; Akhil Patel scored 61, Rikki Wessels 54 and Ollie Swann recorded his first half century for the second team scoring 56.
Graeme White chipped in with 40 and Scott Elstone 31.
However the stand of the day was that between Jake Ball & Adeel Shafique who added 152 in just 22.3 overs as they put the Durham attack to the sword.
Jake Ball was severe on the bowling hitting 12 fours and a six in his 69-ball innings and Adeel Shafique followed up his keeping display as substitute for Hampshire with a not out 67 on his second eleven debut.
