Notts 319-3 dec & 177-6 dec drew with Cambridge University 234-3 dec & 248-8
Both sides contrived to get a result from this truncated fixture and very nearly did so as Notts fell two wickets short of victory and the visitors were just 15 runs from their target.
Cambridge batted for nearly an hour in the morning against some much improved Notts bowling which restricted them to a further 27 runs to add to their overnight score of 203-1. The declaration came with the visitors 85 runs behind.
The home team 's second knock revolved around Neil Edwards who , apart from 25 from Sam Wood in an opening stand of 82, saw partners come and go. His 113 made out of 177-6 contained 78 in boundaries compiled in 99 balls and he was undefeated when, as skipper, he declared. James Cowan took 5-59 with his left arm medium-paced bowling.
Set 263 to win, Cambridge made a valiant attempt to reach the target mainly through Peter Turnbull who attacked with relish hitting 95 from just 69 balls. He was out with the score at 230 with 27 balls remaining.
Aided by some fine catching Notts made their bid for a win by taking three wickets in five balls but the ninth wicket pair batted out the remaining over for the draw.

The Seconds open their competitve programme with a Trophy game against Durham starting next Tuesday at Lady Bay, followed by a 3-day Championship fixture on Wednesday against the same opposition.
