Nottinghamshire Academy batsman Sam Wood hopes that England can end their Sri Lankan tour on a high note after marking his selection for two Under 19 Tests with solid knocks of 130 and 95 in blistering heat in Colombo.
Wood turns 18 in April and has already stated his ambition to secure a professional contract at Trent Bridge.
The touring group conclude their programme with a fifth One Day International in Colombo on Saturday and Wood has enjoyed the exposure.
“The tour has been a great experience for me because conditions are vastly different to what I’ve experienced in England,” said Wood, who scored 96 runs in Nottinghamshire’s Second Eleven Championship match against Glamorgan last season.
“We’ve had to adapt because the temperature has touched forty degrees a couple of times with 90 per cent humidity and there’s been a lot of rain as well.
“We played well in the Test matches which were both high-scoring draws but we lost the first three ODIs with the fourth one abandoned so there’s a lot of focus on the final match.
“I’ve enjoyed every minute of the tour though and it’s a big honour to represent England at this level.”
