Nottinghamshire Director of Cricket Mick Newell has confirmed that Hashim Amla won’t feature as an overseas player in 2011.
Newell had hoped to reach agreement with Amla, a prolific run-scorer in Nottinghamshire’s winning start in the LV= County Championship last season.
"We did talk to Hashim but he has said that he doesn't want to come but we try to build up relationships with our overseas players and we would be pleased to have him back at some point in the future,” said Newell.
"We drew up a short-list with the Indian Premier League auction in mind and now it's a case of finishing off those deals.
”The IPL and international commitments are likely to lead Notts to sign at least two overseas players to ensure they remain at full strength throughout the season.
"David Hussey is in the IPL at the start of the county season and we are talking about the possibility of him joining us later in the season, as he did last year,” added Newell.
