Second Eleven Championship
Day 1 of 3
Lancashire 320 Notts 13-2
It was an attritional day’s cricket on the first day of this Championship match at Todmorden.
Lancashire won the toss and batted under grey skies and by lunch had compiled 135-1 against some tidy bowling from the Notts attack. However, three chances were offered by the batsmen and the innings could have taken a different course had they been taken.
Reece and Bentley were the batsmen reprieved but in the afternoon as the sun appeared for the first time this week, Nottinghamshire’s fortunes changed.
Reece (66), Parry (4) and Newby (0) all fell to sharp catches in the slips. Bentley was bowled by Elstone for 73 but the main obstacle was Jordan Clark who scored 90 before he was smartly caught cutting at gully by Karl Turner having hit 5 sixes and 11 fours.
He somewhat ruined Adam Dobb's figures. The young off spinner had bowled very well in his opening spell of twelve overs, only conceding 35 runs, but went for 33 from his next four.
Ben Phillips was more economical with 2-29 from 22 overs whilst George Bacon ended with 2-40 but Martin Weightman took the honours with 3-47 from 16 overs.
Lancashire were all out shortly before the scheduled close and the last four overs proved costly for Notts as they lost Turner and Patel.
