Second Eleven Championship
Day 2 of 3
Lancashire 320 & 139-6 lead Nottinghamshire 264 by 195 runs
The game was in the balance after an eventful second day at Todmorden.
The morning session produced a flurry of wickets and boundaries as Notts progressed to 137-7 at lunch. Chris Benham (37) and Scott Elstone (33) were the top scorers in the morning with Oliver Newby claiming two early wickets but finding the ball being dispatched regularly to the boundary as his first seven overs cost him 44 runs.
Simon Kerrigan claimed the wickets of Benham and Elstone as he started a mammoth 32-over spell only interrupted by the lunch interval.
Seemingly facing the follow on, Martin Weightman had other ideas as after the dismissal of Ben Phillips with the total on 163, he was joined by George Bacon and these two pulled the innings round with a stand of 81 for the 9th wicket.
Weightman had reached 65 before he was bowled by Kerrigan, a watchful innings of over two hours, facing 116 balls with 46 coming in boundaries.
Bacon was left undefeated on 39 from 83 balls when Adam Dobb was the fifth victim for Kerrigan caught at the wicket for 16. Kerrigan finished with 5-58.
Wickets fell regularly as the home side attempted to build on their lead with Phillips taking 3-22 and Weightman ending a great day for him personally with 2-25.
The first hour on the last day could prove decisive as to the outcome of the game.
