Tamim Iqbal constructed a stylish 47 as Notts Outlaws continued their march towards the quarter-finals of the Friends Life t20.
Andrew Gale top-scored for Yorkshire with 62 but Luke Fletcher held a routine catch off Andre Adams to end his stand. Aside from Jonny Bairstow's 41*, the home batting was brittle with Sayers, McGrath and Ballance failing to reach double figures and Lyth (16) and Shahzad (15) scoring at a relatively slow rate.
Chris Read hit consecutive sixes at the end of the 17th over of the Outlaws' reply leaving Scott Elstone to score the single that was required for victory.
"It was nice to get in and face a few more balls and to finish the game off," said Elstone.
"For the most part of the game, we felt comfotable and in control and the run rate never got away from us.
"I'm getting used to the pressures of first team cricket and the whole team is really enjoying this competition. We're closing in on a quarter-final but we won't take our foot off the gas and we'll keep going to try and secure more wins."
Riki Wessels produced a stunning diving catch to restrict Sayers to two runs and made a useful 27 in a 61-run partnership with Iqbal. From 101-1 though, Notts slipped to 102-3 as young spinner Ian Wardlaw took two wickets for two runs in the 13th over.
Captain Adam Voges was bowled by Rafiq attempting a sweep as it became 105-4 but Read (26) and Elstone (21) maintained an assured presence to steer Notts home.
