Notts Outlaws skipper David Hussey brushed off becoming the world's leading run scorer in t20 cricket by insisting: "It's trophies not records that matter to me."
The Aussie batsman needed just seven runs prior to the start of last night's game against the Leicestershire Foxes at Grace Road to overtake Victoria team-mate Brad Hodge's previous best aggregate of 3,690.
The 33-year-old did that in style by smashing Abdul Razzaq for a straight six on his way to a 16-ball 32 and has now scored 3,716 t20 runs for Notts, Victoria, King's XI Punjab, Kolkata Knight Riders and Australia.
But the game ended in disappointment as Leicestershire managed 21-0 from 2.4 overs in reply to Notts' total of 164-8 before heavy rain meant no further play was possible and each side claimed a point.
The Outlaws will hope for better fortune when they host Warwickshire at Trent Bridge today (2.40pm start) and Hussey is determined to quickly move on from his personal achievement.
"It's a nice record to have, but I'm not really interested in them – I prefer to win games and trophies," said Hussey.
"I think it will be a very short-lived record with the amount of t20 cricket that is played around the world these days.
"I sent Hodgey (Brad Hodge) a text after the game that he might get this morning in Australia just to remind him about it!
"But it would mean more to me to win this competition with Notts because that's what we play the game for, not individual feats.
"We want to win silverware like we did with the Championship last year. I want to be having another go at that this year and also looking to go all the way in the t20."
With Yorkshire's victory over Lancashire last night, Notts remain top of the North group with seven points from their four games.
Hussey is delighted with the Outlaws' start to their 2011 t20 campaign and is eyeing a home quarter-final for finishing in the top two.
He said: "I think we need ten wins to be sure of doing that. We want to be playing at Trent Bridge in front of our home fans rather than travelling down south.
"The good thing is that we are doing the basics right and that has helped get the results so far.
"Another victory on home soil against Warwickshire today would put us in a strong position."
Hussey's new record mark was lauded by director of cricket Mick Newell, who said it underlines just why he is so vital to the Outlaws.
He added: "Huss has played an awful lot of t20 cricket around the world. I think he would be top of a lot of people's shopping lists when they want to sign a player for t20 cricket.
"I think we are very lucky to have someone of his calibre in our team."
David Hussey will captain Notts Outlaws in this afternoon's Friends Life t20 match against Warwickshire Bears at Trent Bridge (play starts at 2.40pm).
