Nottinghamshire bowler Andy Carter is keen to make an immediate impression when he joins England Lions for the conclusion of their tour of the West Indies.
Carter got the call on Friday following the withdrawal of Maurice Chambers and will arrive in Barbados this afternoon ahead of Thursday’s WICB Championship Challenge match.
The Lions have two more confirmed fixtures ahead of a potential semi-final and final.
“This is a great opportunity for me because I was all set to go to Abu Dhabi with Notts but England recognition at any level is what we’re all aiming for,” said Carter.
“I’ll approach these matches like I would any other and that means trying to bowl fast and to provide something different to a traditional English seamer.”
Carter spent the winter with the ECB Fast Bowling Skill-Set, a programme designed to provide tailored development to emerging players on the county scene.
Notts teammate Jake Ball was also part of the programme along with Leicestershire’s Nathan Buck and Warwickshire’s Boyd Rankin.
“The work I’ve done at Loughborough has helped me to make some technical changes,” he said.
“I’ve added a few metres to my run-up and found a groove which allows me to exert less energy and retain more control. I’ve improved technically and I’m physically stronger and I need to apply that on this tour.”
