Nottinghamshire 228-7 (2pts) beat Worcester 144 all out by 84 runs
Jake Ball took 4 wickets in 16 balls to ease Nottinghamshire’s second string to a comprehensive victory over Worcestershire at Lady Bay.
Winning the toss and batting, Notts made a slow start but gained the ascendency through a second wicket stand between Academy newcomer Tom Rowe and Scott Elstone which added 106 before the latter was bowled one short of his half century.
Rowe. who impressed more the longer he was at the crease, fell for 63 from 96 balls with the score at 146.
Chris Benham, formerly of Hampshire, made 20 and Ollie Swann 21 before Ben Phillips scored a rapid 31 from just 12 balls to give Notts a late boost.
Jake Ball then took four quick wickets to leave the Worcester innings in ruins at 9-4. Only Brett D'Oliveira, the son of Worcester second team coach Damian & grandson of the famous Basil, offered any resistance with a polished 55. Clifton's Martin Weightman, trialling with the visitors, scored 26.
Ball came back to claim a fifth wicket to give him a career best in the Trophy of 5-16.
