Sussex 2nd XI v Notts 2nd XI (three day friendly)
Notts 392 all out
Day one of this friendly match against Sussex at the delightful Horsham ground belonged entirely to Sam Kelsall who surpassed his previous best of 99 against Gloucestershire last season with a superb maiden century that he converted into 151.
In a marathon innings of over six hours he batted with assured calmness, playing unhurried shots against an experienced home attack.
Profiting from cuts behind point, through the covers and nudges down the leg side he reached 50 in 77 balls but then wickets fell he accumulated slowly with two singles taking him to a cherished first hundred in 171 balls with eight fours.
A burst of boundaries immediately after this milestone increased his scoring rate but then he played the support role to Ben Phillips who bludgeoned 94 from 99 balls in a seventh wicket stand of 146 before being caught on the boundary.
Kelsall was 8th out at 351 but lusty hitting from George Bacon (37 not out) enabled Notts to finish in the ascendency .
Earlier Ali Brown had helped arrest a poor start after Sam Wood and Riki Wessels had been dismissed early with Notts 5-2 . Brown scored 54 with 38 in boundaries to put Notts back on track.
