Nottinghamshire pace bowler Andy Carter has backed calls to deliver high-speed broadband to rural areas.

The Superfast Broadband project, led by Nottinghamshire County Council, aims to demonstrate sufficeint demand to convince telecoms companies to invest in their networks for the benefit of residents and businesses.

"I'm backing the campaign because of the frustrations I have experienced whilst browsing at home," said Carter, who has taken 43 wickets in 15 first class matches for Nottinghamshire.

"Spending time at Trent Bridge, where wifi speeds are lightning quick, makes you realise how poor services are in rural communities and I would urge everyone to pledge their support to this campaign."

Carter is all to aware of the frustration that slow broadband cause having grown up on a farm.

"There is a big difference in broadband speeds in villages but being online is essential to my family's business," he said.

"The ambition is to make Superfast Broadband a reality in rural Nottinghamshire by 2015 but for that to happen we need to get our voices heard."
