Nottinghamshire Director of Cricket Mick Newell hopes to have the availabiility of James Taylor confirmed in time for tomorrow's LV= County Championship match against Somerset.
Taylor would like to prepare for the third Investec test by taking part at Taunton subject to clearance from Andy Flower.
"James wants to play which is a boost to our planning as it looked like we would be without him and Samit with the Lions game this week," said Newell.
"His call-up and Graeme Swann's ommission have given us two players who we didn't expect to be available so we have a lot of optiions in our 14-man squad."
The top six seems relatively certain with Hales, Wessels, Lumb, Taylor, Voges and Read set to feature with Andre Adams and Graeme Swann certainties for inclusion. Harry Gurney was left out of the Outlaws team that lost to Welsh Dragons in Sunday's CB40 match which hints at his likely inclusion.
Ben Phillips and Andy Carter have shown solid LV= County Championship form but may have to compete with Steven Mullaney, Paul Franks and Graeme White for a place.
"We'll have a look at conditions because we're not sure what to expect from Somerset given Abdur Rehman will be in their side," said Newell.
"We've got to look at the balance of the team in the absence of Samit."
