Nottinghamshire bowler Stuart Broad will captain England at Trent Bridge for the first time in his career when the West Indies provide the opposition in Sundays NatWest International T20.
The match is a complete sell-out and a fitting occasion for Broad to celebrate his 26th birthday.
“We are a young side but I’m not worried by that because we have a lot of talent,” said Broad
“We have got players in that have performed in big matches and that’s what counts.”
Broad was a key member of the England team that won the ICC World Twenty20 in 2010 and sees little significance in the lack of IPL experience in his ranks.
“In 2010, we were the only team without IPL experience but we were consistent and successful in the format.
“The basics don’t change in twenty20 cricket and we know that length is very important in the early overs and slower balls and Yorkers can be effective at the death.”
England will be without Kevin Pietersen following his abrupt retirement from international limited overs cricket and Broad hopes that the performances of others will reduce the significance of that decision.
“KP scored a lot of runs at number three but he’s not around any more so there’s an opportunity for someone else to step up,” said Broad.
“It’s been four months since our last t20 international but I’m looking forward to it. You only need two players to tee-off and you can take the game away from the opposition.”
