Graeme Swann has signed a new two-year contract with Nottinghamshire.

Swann remains centrally-contracted to England but the terms of his new domestic deal, which runs until the end of the 2014 season, will come into force if he loses that status.

“Trent Bridge is the best ground in the country and I want to spend the rest of my playing days here,” said Swann.

“I’m wholly committed to England but if I’m ever dropped due to a lack of form then I will be back with Nottinghamshire.

“When Mick Newell signed me he told me that he wanted to win Championships and provide players for England and he has delivered on both fronts.

“I’m very proud of the achievements of the England team over the past few years because we have played some outstanding cricket and worked extremely hard to maintain our standards.”

Newell, the Nottinghamshire Director of Cricket, convinced Swann to move to Trent Bridge in 2005 where the off-spinner won the County Championship in his debut season.

“Graeme has excelled at the Club and it was always evident that he had the potential to become a consistent international cricketer but he has surpassed everyone’s expectations with his achievements since his Test debut,” said Newell.

“It’s pleasing that he has committed his future to us but I fully expect him to remain a key part of England’s plans for the foreseeable future.

“He is great to have around Trent Bridge for both cricket and comedy value.”

England face the West Indies at Trent Bridge on Sunday in a sold out NatWest International T20.
