The final day’s cricket of Nottinghamshire’s Barbados tour saw a continuation of their 2-day match against Warwickshire at Windward Cricket Club.

In a reversal of what happened on Saturday, Warwickshire batted for the first 60 overs of the day, making 148-7, with Notts replying with 127-2.

On the bowling front Graeme White’s left-arm spin brought him three wickets, with Neil Edwards again looking composed at the crease, making a classy 60 before retiring.

Mick Newell expressed his satisfaction at the day’s activities. “I thought our bowlers did well after lunch”, he said. “They were a little too short before but then adjusted well and picked up some useful wickets.

“From our point of view we’ve got an awful lot out of these two days.”

After an opening day which saw Notts make 279-5 dec and the Bears replying with 96-4, the first action of the day came from an unexpected source – as the ground-staff had to race out with the covers as a sharp shower swept across the ground just before the start.

Moments later normal service was resumed as the sun appeared and play began on time with Notts changing their personnel from the opening day and starting with: Read, Wessels, Turner, Edwards, Lumb, Elstone, Phillips, White, Franks, Fletcher and Gurney.

Warwicks declared their first innings closed and began again with Darren Maddy and Ian Westwood at the crease. For an hour they batted without too many alarms, reaching 42-0 from 15 overs, against the four rotating seamers.

The Lucas Street ground was then hit with another sudden deluge of rain, forcing the players to head for the pavilion and watch fifteen minutes of television coverage of the ODI from St Lucia.

On the stroke of lunch Paul Franks made the first inroad into the Warwicks order, having Maddy (32) caught in the gully by Michael Lumb, to leave the interval score on 73-1 off 26 overs.

Westwood retired at the break on 24 and his replacement, Tim Ambrose (4) soon fell to a catch at the wicket from the impressive Gurney, who then heaped more pressure on the opposition by bowling Steffan Piolet (7).

 Graeme White bowled during the heat of the afternoon and in a twelve over spell picked up three useful wickets, Rikki Clarke, holing out for 4, Milnes (lbw for 7) and Ateeq Javid bowled for 2.

The Bears then lost Chris Wright (0) edging Franks to Elstone at slip before declaring on 148-7 at tea.

With thirty overs of batting practice available after tea, Notts lost Lumb (4) to Carter. Riki Wessels (24) played several attacking drives but then lofted the same bowler to point.

Karl Turner was given out first ball but he – and everyone else – knew he’d snicked it before the ball had crashed into his pads. Carter was already apologising for his half-appeal, when the finger went up, and asked the umpire to reinstate him.

Neil Edwards again impressed, making 60 from 51 deliveries, with 7 fours and 3 crunching sixes, before retiring to let Scott Elstone spend some time in the middle.

Turner made the most of his reprieve to end on 24 not out with Elstone scoring an undefeated 13 as Notts closed their tour on 127-2, having had he better of an honourable draw.
