A beneficiary of Nottinghamshire County Cricket Club's groundreaking Positive Futures scheme has been selected to take part in the Olympic Torch Relay.
Macauley Davies-Jones, a 15 year old resident of Cotgrave, the Rushcliffe town where the scheme has operated since 2009, was chosen from thousands of nominations and will run a 300 metre leg in Newark.
Macauley was nominated by Positive Futures Co-Ordinator Mark Clifford in recognition of his commitment to the scheme which seeks to equip young people with the confidence to reject anti-social behaviour and equip themselves with the skills to succeed.
"Macauley is a positive member of our group and his personal development has accelerated to the point that he has now secured an apprenticeship and the first step in a future career," said Clifford, a former professional footballer hailing from Broxtowe.
"Having the spotlight thrust upon him in the Olympic Torch Relay may have daunted him two years ago but he's really looking forward to it now which demonstrates the progress that he has made."
Positive Futures has made a measurable impact in reducing juvenile crime and encouraging social inclusion in Cotgrave by delivering activities for young people.
Operated by the Trent Bridge Community Sports Trust in partnership with Rushcliffe Borough Council, a full-time co-ordinator and an extensive team of specialist coaches and leaders have offered recreational sports sessions and given children the chance to try activities of their own choosing for the first time.
