Notts Academy secured the runners-up spot in the Notts Premier League after keenly contested tie with West Indian Cavaliers on the final day of the season.
The Academy needed 13 runs from the final three overs to force victory but with one run to win required off the last ball, Andrew Parkin-Coates was run out for 14, the match ending in a tie with Brett Hutton 7 not out.
West Indian Cavaliers won the toss and elected to bat, Bilal Shafayat and Michael Millwood opening.
When Shafayat (16) was bowled by George Bacon (34-1), the Cavaliers started to lose wickets steadily and at 118-7 in the 38th over it looked like they would struggle to post a meaningful total. However, a stand of 69 for the 8th wicket between Dominic Williamson and Farhan Shaukat took them to 187-8 in the final over when Williamson (45) was caught off Bacon's bowling. Shaukat finished on 43 not out and the final score was 193-8.
Notts Academy replied with Tom Rowe and Hassan Azad opening and they set the home side on their way with a stand of 89 before Azad (35) was stumped in the 22nd over.
Sam Kelsall joined Rowe but 6 overs later Rowe was out for 55, caught in the deep (112-2). Kelsall (21) and Elstone (9) soon followed, both adjudged LBW to Usman Afzaal (132-4). Although still only requiring four an over Cavaliers made it difficult for the Academy with Afzaal also claiming the wickets of Matt Cross (18) and Adam Tilcock (16).
