The Nottinghamshire Academy strolled to an eight wicket win over Mansfield Hosiery Mills today, chasing down 196 with seven overs left to play.
After winning the toss and electing to field, the Academy struck first in the 11th over, Bacon accounting for J New. His brother, Tom took to the crease and worked his way to 30 before being trapped LBW by Luke Wood. The broken partnership was worth 69 and after Curtis passed 50, a big total looked likely. Ben Kitt, however, had other ideas, removing the danger man with an excellent catch on the boundary off Tillcock.
Two overs later his bowling yielded results too, seeing off Fernando and Fraser in consecutive balls to leave MHM on 123-5.
In the 42nd over Smallwood was caught by Bacon off Tillcock, and in the 48th Brett Hutton bowled Matt New, MHM on 175-7. The last wicket to fall was Jayasinghe’s, caught by Johnson off Bacon in the penultimate over. After the final deliveries, the total amassed was 196-8.
The Notts reply, led by Azad and Kelsall reached 30 before Azad was caught off Garside. Matt Cross was the new man in, and he contributed 40 before the second wicket saw him caught behind off Jayasinghe.
Tom Rowe joined Kelsall, and the pair played solidly, both finishing unbeaten as the total was passed in the 43rd over. Kelsall finished with 72* and Rowe with 64*, and another 20 points for the Academy.
