Notts Outlaws continue their white-ball adventure tonight with a Friends Life t20 fixture against local rivals Derbyshire Falcons.
Seamer Harry Gurney returned from injury to bowl in the Outlaws’ victory over Lancashire Lightning, taking a wicket and conceding just 18 runs in his four over spell.
“We bowled, batted and fielded well,” said Gurney.
“It was nice to go somewhere like Lancashire and get a win, our record there previously hadn’t been that good."
Tonight's opponents, the Falcons, have managed to win all three of their fixtures thus far, giving them an excellent start to this summer’s Friends Life t20 competition.
“They’ve got some dangerous players in their side, Chesney Hughes hits a big ball and Chanderpaul is a world class player,” said Gurney.
“We will have plans and try and execute them.”
“Some days the batsmen win those battles, others they don’t and hopefully we come down on the winning side.”
Twenty 20 competitions across the world attract overseas players of the highest calibre, adding an extra bite to bowling attacks, and providing batsmen capable of clearing the ropes with ease.
“There are a lot of dangerous overseas players on the county circuit, but one thing that we can’t do is underestimate the other guys in the team,” said Gurney.
“Look at the Notts side. We have David Hussey, who is obviously a world-class player, but you underestimate the rest of our team at your own peril.”
The Derbyshire fixture is the first of a run away from home in both white and red ball cricket, and the Outlaws will be looking to maintain their good form throughout these matches.
“We’re brimming with confidence,” said Gurney.
“These fixtures are especially important as they are away from home, and it’s crucial to keep picking up points on the road.”
“An unbeaten record would be lovely, but the most important thing will be topping the group at the end of that stage,” he added.
“Each competition has its merits. As players we all enjoy playing t20 cricket, there are bigger crowds, a bit of music, and it’s fun but you can’t beat the satisfaction of winning a four day championship game.”
