The Nottinghamshire Second XI fell to a 92-run defeat at the hands of Glamorgan in their Trophy match in Cardiff, after failing to successfully chase the host’s target set at 267.
After electing to field, Notts found going tough, Glamorgan’s openers adding 138 for the first wicket before Matt Cross stumped Bragg (75) off the bowling of Sam Wood. The next over saw fellow opener Walters depart, trapped LBW off Tillcock for 55.
Sam Wood featured in the next two wickets, running out Aneurin Donald (9) in the 26th and bowling Jeremy Lawlor for 1 in the next, the score 154-4.
The fifth wicket partnership continued until the final three overs, when Hutton bowled Lancefield (50) shortly after taking Glamorgan over the 200 mark. Luke Wood accounted for the partnership’s supporting man, Greg Holmes (27) in the following over.
Andrew Salter (19*) and Hamza Riazaddin (14*) guided the home side to 266-6 at the end of their 40 overs.
Facing an impressive total, Notts faltered in the opening five overs and were reduced to 9-3 in the early stages.
Hassan Azad (1) was caught off Glover in the first, before Jones had Matt Cross (2) caught behind in the second. Sam Wood failed to score before he was caught by Holmes for Glover’s second with the first ball of the fifth.
Sam Kelsall, alongside trialist Aaron Todd steadied the ship, before the latter was caught behind off Powell for 11, leaving Notts on 52-4 in the twelfth over.
Tom Rowe was caught off Riazaddin for 11, but Kelsall battled until the 22nd before he was caught of Salter for 42.
Trialist Basil Akram batted well but saw Tillcock (12) and Hutton (19) fall alongside him before being bowled by Jones in the 38th over for 43. The innings closed with the final ball of the penultimate over, Luke Wood caught by Lancefield off Glover for 6.
Notts closed on 174 all out, leaving George Bacon unbeaten on 16. Akram’s 43 was the top score for Notts, while Glamorgan’s John Glover was the pick of the bowlers, taking 3-27 from his 7 overs.
