In their first game 19 days, the second’s inflicted a 124-run defeat over Worcestershire at Welbeck Colliery Cricket Club.
Nottinghamshire won the toss and elected to bat, captain Sam Kelsall and keeper Matt Cross opening.
Visitors Worcestershire had the better of the early running removing Kelsall (2) and Cross (13) with on 32 on the board.
Tom Rowe and Sam Wood rescued those early jitters with a crucial 66-run stand, before the former was LBW to Brett D’Oliveira for 44. Wood continued on to reach 50 but fell soon after on 56, the score on 143-4.
Adam Tillcock was the new man with Graeme White at the other end and they added 24 before Tillcock fell, caught by Kohler-Cadmore off Alex Hepburn.
The score had reached 193-6, with White passing 50 before the same duo combined again to remove him for 57.
Cameos towards the end of the innings from Paul Franks (15), Jake Ball (11) and Luke Wood (12*) ensured the home side set a competitive 237-9 off their 40 overs. With the run rate up at nearly six an over, Russell (3-37 from 7) and Morris (3-48 from 8) did well to slow down the Notts progress.
In reply, Notts got off to the perfect start with Ball having Fell caught behind for 4 in the fifth over.
Kohler-Cadmore and captain Johnson recovered from that early blip to pass the fifty mark in less than 10 overs.
However, that was the last of the good news for the visitors with changes in bowling providing the impetus they needed.
Brett Hutton accounted for Johnson on 24 before a great one-handed catch from Franks at slip off Graeme White sent D’Oliveria back for 5 leaving the score on 65-3.
It got worse from there as opener Kohler-Cadmore fell for 31 and Hutton picked his second, that of Hepburn for 0, with the score only moving to 68.
The collapse continued as George Rhodes failed to score as he was caught on the boundary off the same Hutton over. White picked up his second soon after as James Clarke was caught and bowled in the 22nd over.
A stand of 35 between Darryl Williams (19) and Morris (19) could not spare their blushes as the innings ended on 113-9.
Ball had Williams caught by Cross and the next ball bowled Morris and with Aneesh Kapil unable to bat, the visitor’s innings was declared closed.
That meant a resounding 124 run win for the home side with Graeme White returning figures of 3-17 off 8 overs, Brett Hutton 3-22 off 5 overs and Jake Ball 3-26 off 6.2 overs.
The seconds face the same opposition in a three-day championship game beginning today.
