The Nottinghamshire Second XI found progress difficult in the second day of their Championship match against Glamorgan, before Ben Phillips rattled through the tail, leaving the hosts with a lead of 291. The day ended with the Notts reply at 69-3.
Nottinghamshire resumed their innings on 114-3, Sam Kelsall reaching his fifty before being caught by keeper Aneurin Donald off Will Powell in the 6th over of the day for 55, before two more wickets fell with no addition. Aaron Todd (0) was caught by Donald again off Powell, then the same fielder caught George Bacon (11) off John Glover in the 7th over, Notts struggling on 135-6.
Adam Tillcock (1) was bowled by Glover in the 11th which left Matt Cross with Brett Hutton. They managed to get the total up to 186 by the 25th over but Cross (15) was trapped LBW by Kieron Bull (186-8).
Bull then wrapped the innings up by having Ben Phillips (4) caught at short leg by Tom Lancefield and Hutton (33) caught on the boundary by Glover in the 29th over, the innings closing on 197 (56.2 overs), with Luke Wood 0 not out.
Glamorgan started their second innings 95 ahead and at lunch were 27 without loss, skipper Stewart Walters on 15 and W Bragg on 12. When they resumed both openers pushed the score on, Bragg reaching his fifty then getting out in the 15th over, caught by keeper Matt Cross off George Bacon for 56.
Walters shared a stand of 54 with Tom Lancefield, which included his fifty before he was caught by Adam Tillcock for 63 attempting a slog-sweep off Sam Wood in the 24th over, Glamorgan pushing on to make 145-2.
Luke Wood caught Lancefield (26) off Tillcock in the 29th over (153-3) and Ben Wright (6) was caught by Hassan Azad off Sam Wood in the 32nd (157-4).
Aneurin Donald (7) was caught by Cross off Sam Wood last ball of the 34th over (164-5) bringing Andrew Salter to the crease to join Jeremy Lawlor and they remained unbeaten at tea, the score 192-5 after 43 overs.
After tea, Ben Phillips ripped through the lower order. He first claimed Salter (9), trapped LBW in the 44th, before John Glover went in the same way next ball. Luke Wood then ran out Lawlor (23) and in the 47th over Phillips sent Kieron Bull back to the pavilion with another LBW for no runs.
From resuming on 192-5, Glamorgan were 196-9, and with Harry Powell retired out, the innings closed, affording the home side a lead of 291. Phillips finished with an excellent 3-1 off his 1.5 overs, and Sam Wood 3-48 off his 16.
Nottinghamshire replied with openers Hassan Azad and Sam Kelsall, but the latter was adjudged LBW to Glover for 8 in the 5th over, the score 9-1. Things worsened as Tom Rowe (0) was trapped by Glover in the 7th over (15-2) and Donald claimed his second, that of Sam Wood (0) in the 9th (15-3).
Hassan Azad was joined by Aaron Todd and together they navigated the 22 remaining overs, Azad 42* and Todd 1*, the score at the close 69-3.
Nottinghamshire face an uphill battle on the final day, to survive with 7 wickets in hand or 223 runs to seal a victory.
