Loan ranger Graeme White took four wickets in nine balls as he helped Northants get off to a winning start in their Friends Life t20 campaign on Friday.
The left-arm off-spinner, on a month-loan from the Outlaws, took career-best figures of 4-14 to set up the 41-run victory.
He is hoping more performances like the one on Friday can force his way into contention for the Outlaws.
“I got told I wouldn't start the campaign at Notts, which was obviously disappointing," said White.
“They've got some good players but I'm knocking on the door, and if I get the opportunity to play, I'm there to do it."
"I want to showcase what I can do which will hopefully lead to a place in the Notts side." Graeme White
“Over the coming weeks I want to showcase what I can do which will hopefully lead to a place in the Notts side.”
For now though he is concentrating on his game’s with Northants, as the Steelbacks look to build on their opening round win.
“It was fantastic coming back, playing my first t20 match at Wantage Road for a long time,” White said.
"A few hairs on the back of my neck went up, which is only normal, seeing as I played here when I was young. The crowd were brilliant and the lads played fantastically well.
"We're going to set ourselves high standards. The team is pretty strong in all areas and we should be competing to finish in the top two or three and try to get through to a quarter-final, and maybe a home one.
“We then knew if we got early wickets then we could defend that total and we need to keep these performances up and aim for consistency.”
White’s return to his previous club has been treated with delight by captain Alex Wakely who is hoping to keep hold of the 26-year-old for as long as possible.
“Graeme was sensational. Who thought a spinner would be the key with a wet ball, and with only three overs?” he said.
"It's a joy to have him back from Notts and let's try to get him here full time if we can."
