The inimitable spectacle of Twenty20 cricket returns to Trent Bridge this Friday with the visit of the Leicestershire Foxes.
The Notts Outlaws will be approaching the fixture in fine white ball form, with seven wins in this season’s Yorkshire Bank 40 competition but for bowler Jake Ball, the Friends Life t20 offers a welcome change.
“It’s a different experience entirely,” he said.
“it’s a nice break almost, half way through the season.
“We have had a lot of red ball and YB40 cricket and it’s good to get to a stage where players like myself have the chance to come into the side and try and impress.”
The Outlaws’ 40 over form has propelled them to favourites for qualification into the finals in one white ball competition already, and Ball is sure that this confidence will be transferred into the 20-over format.
“We have every reason to be confident, we’re flying in the YB40 and have international quality throughout the order,” he said.
“Our batsmen are playing incredibly well, and with that kind of ammunition we’re confident that we can chase down any total set.”
The Friends Life t20 competition often attracts the biggest crowds in the county game, and with in excess of six thousand expected at Trent Bridge for the fixture on Friday, the atmosphere promises to be electric.
“I think that we do t20 cricket really well here at Trent Bridge,” said Ball.
“The entire production is amazing and the backing of the crowd definitely counts for something, it gives us an extra boost.”
The Leicestershire Foxes are the first opponents to step into the path of the Outlaws, and even though their status as an LV=County Championship Division Two side places Notts as firm favourites, Ball hasn’t underestimated his local rivals.
“I don’t think that their league status counts for much,” he said.
“In a twenty over match, anything can happen. The entire match could come down to a single over, and that’s what makes it so exciting.”
