Nottinghamshire’s Second XI fell to an 83-run Trophy defeat at the hands of Leicestershire after an early batting collapse left hopes of a reply out of reach.
Winning the toss, Notts put the visitors into bat, and the opening pair made 45 for no loss in the first ten overs, before Josh Cobb was caught by Kelsall off the bowling of Bacon. After this loss, Leicestershire added 96 for the second wicket before Graeme White trapped Bush for 56. Opener Robson (63) continued for another five overs, before his innings was ended courtesy of a stumping by Mellor off Sam Wood, the score now 163-4.
Wells and Raine added a further 48 before Ben Phillips caught the latter off Jake Ball in the 37th over. Brett Hutton bowled Wells (48) with the penultimate ball of the innings, before striking again to remove Sykes with the final delivery. Leicestershire closed on 242-8.
The Notts reply started in disastrous fashion. After losing Kelsall for 0 with the third ball of the innings, by the 12 over the score was 34-5. Tom Rowe (8) was run out a ball before Sam Wood (15) was bowled in consecutive 8th over balls. Graeme White (3) and Nick Langford (1) were both bowled in the 11th and 12th over leaving Notts wobbling. Hutton and Tillcock added 62 for the 6th wicket before Hutton was trapped for 18. Tillcock was run out for 41 in the 27th over, Notts with 102-7.
Mellor went for 1 before a spirited stand between Ben Phillips and Jake Ball added 55 for the 9th wicket, before Ball was bowled for 41 off 28 deliveries. George Bacon was unable to bat due to injury, leaving Ben Phillips unbeaten on 16 not out and Notts posting a total of 159-9, Leicestershire winning by 83 runs.
