Andre Adams can’t wait to get back in action for Nottinghamshire as he battles back from a recent injury.
Adams tore his calf during the Derbyshire game, an injury that will rule him out for up to six weeks but he has no plan to return before he is ready.
“The injury is in an awkward spot meaning we are going to take a cautious approach in the recovery process,” Adams said.
“We have to be sensible with this one as if it happens again it will be another six weeks and that wouldn’t be good for me or the club.”
"It is an absolute honour to play at this ground and I want to do the best I can for as long as I can." Andre Adams
“The cold weather when I came over here was hard to get used to but I had started to bowl with a really good rhythm and my body was feeling fine.
“I am so used to being such a big part of this bowling unit and now I have to sit and watch and that is where the frustration kicks in.”
Whilst the injury isn’t ideal at the start of a busy season, the team still managed to pull off the victory at Derbyshire without their main talisman.
“After an out of character performance against Middlesex it was good to get that first win on the board at Derby," he said.
“Even though I didn’t play a big part it was good to be there for the win and to see Broady bowl well was fun to watch.
“Harry Gurney bowled well too and it is always good to have a left-armer in your side and this guy bowls at pace and swings it meaning he is awkward to face.”
The pride of playing at Trent Bridge is something many players talk about and Adams is no different as he strives to get back in front of the supporters.
“I love playing here," he said. "By the end of the season when it is dark and cold I can’t wait to get home but within a few weeks of being home I can’t wait to get back here.
“It is an absolute honour to play at this ground and I want to do the best I can for as long as I can.”
Looking past Adams’ first aim of getting back fit and playing, he realises the strength of the squad could deliver trophies this season.
“You always think of trophies at the start of the season but it only takes a few bad games to throw challenge away," he said.
“This squad’s talent is exceptional. You have James Taylor who is batting well and is batting in the right place for the team and his career.
“Ed Cowan is a great character and all the bowlers are striving to be the best they can be and taking no shortcuts.”
Looking even further ahead, Adams can’t wait for the one-day portion of the season to start and the weather to reach its peak.
“This summer has to be better than last summer in terms of the weather. When this ground fills up it is the best atmosphere around and I can’t wait to be a part of that.
“The people here approach life in a more jubilant manner and the support we get across the year is immense.
"I can’t wait for the Ashes to be here as the level of atmosphere lifts whenever a Test of that magnitude is held in Nottingham.”
