Nottinghamshire’s overseas signing Peter Siddle will miss the county’s first LV= County Championship game of the season against Lancashire as he awaits the arrival of visa documentation.
Siddle had hoped to arrive at Trent Bridge on Wednesday but has been forced to delay his travel plans while he waits for paperwork. He is now expected to arrive on Tuesday.
“Peter wanted to play against Lancashire and we want him in the team but the speed of the process is out of our hands which is frustrating,” said Newell.
“Everything that could be done has been done but we’ll get him in the side to face Middlesex at Lord's.”
Siddle’s absence leaves Newell with a selection dilemma with Andre Adams, Harry Gurney and Luke Fletcher likely to be included. Ajmal Shahzad, Andy Carter and Jake Ball are the leading contenders for the remaining spot.
