Nottinghamshire batsman Jake Libby has been forced to cut short his club cricket stint in Australia after suffering a knee injury.
Libby will return to the UK for knee surgery this week following a successful spell with Latrobe CC in Tasmania.
Nottinghamshire Director of Cricket Mick Newell expects to receive a more detailed diagnosis when Libby returns to Trent Bridge.
“We’ve had good reports from Jake’s Australian Club side about his batting and the way in which he has gone about his business in general,” said Newell.
“He arranged the trip off his own back and it’s always good to see a young player planning their own winter programme.
“We’ll wait for the report from the specialist but we believe that he’ll need to have an operation.”
Libby scored 413 runs including an unbeaten 115 for Latrobe and took 13 wickets with best figures of 4-37.
He scored a century on debut for Nottinghamshire in the LV= County Championship and signed a two-year contract at Trent Bridge in September.
