Nottinghamshire’s Stuart Broad led the way again in England’s ill-fated Ashes campaign, according to the latest FTI Most Valuable Player statistics.
The all-rounder continued his fine form from the summer to top the Winter Test rankings with 124 points, at an average of 24.85, from the five-match Ashes series in Australia.
He secured 89.07 bowling points and 33.16 batting points after starting the series with a bang at the Gabba, where he took six wickets from 24.0 overs.
During the series Broad claimed 21 wickets, the third highest total of any bowler on either side.
That effort earned him 29.96 bowling points at an economy rate of 3.38, all against the backdrop of a hostile crowd in Brisbane.
During the series Broad claimed 21 wickets, the third highest total of any bowler on either side, at an average of 27.52 and an economy rate of 3.57.
His best performance with the bat came in the concluding Test where he hit a quick-fire 42 off 36 deliveries. He picked up 9.73 batting points for his contribution, which was 25.30% of England’s total.
The FTI MVP rewards players for every run scored, wicket taken and catch held across all three formats of the game.
Bowlers receive higher marks for good economy rates in the FTI MVPs, bowling maidens and dismissing the top order, while batsmen are rewarded for high run rates and the percentage of
the team’s runs they hit.
Broad finished second to fellow Striker Bowler Jimmy Anderson in the FTI MVP rankings this summer by three points. He is third in the overall rankings since they began in 2007, just over ten points behind his recently retired Trent Bridge team mate Graeme Swann.
