Notts Outlaws return to white ball action on Friday evening when they face Derbyshire Falcons in the T20 Blast competition at the the 3aaa County Ground, Derby, with play starting at 7pm.

The Outlaws are in need of a win, having sustained back-to-back defeats in their last two matches, after kicking off the campaign with victory over Lancashire Lightning.

Derbyshire Falcons are looking for their first win of the campaign, having picked up just one point so far. They have lost to Leicestershire, Yorkshire and Lancashire, before suffering a complete wash-out in their match with Northants last week.

Head-To-Head

In the domestic T20 tournament Notts and Derbyshire have met on 20 previous occasions, with ten matches at each county’s headquarters.

Notts have an overall advantage of 12 wins to 6, with two matches being lost to the weather.

The Outlaws have travelled well, being unbeaten in their last 8 matches at the County Ground. They won there in 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011 and also last year – with the 2012 match being abandoned without a ball being bowled.

Last Time

On 5 July last year Notts Outlaws travelled the short journey to face their East Midlands rivals and pulled off a fairly routine 6-wicket victory.

Everything went right for Notts from the moment Chris Read won the toss. Put in, the hosts had lost dangermen Wes Durston and Chesney Hughes inside the first three overs and when Shivnarine Chanderpaul and Wayne Madsen soon followed a challenging total seemed unlikely.

Madsen’s 36 turned out to the top score, as the innings nose-dived spectacularly and closed on 115-9 with Samit Patel taking 3-16 and both Jake Ball and Ian Butler picking up two wickets apiece.

Stands of 42 for the first wicket and 50 for the third ensured that Notts weren’t going to be daunted by chasing such a short target and they romped to their win with 15 balls to spare. Michael Lumb made 49 and James Taylor 34, with David Wainwright picking up three of the four wickets to fall.

Played For Them Both

The Outlaws may come up against some familiar faces at the other end of the A52. Both Mark Footitt (pictured below bowling Saj Mahmood) and Scott Elstone are in line to appear for the Falcons against the side where they began their careers.

AJ Harris, another to have spent time on the staff at Trent Bridge is currently part of the coaching staff at Derby.

Amongst other players to have appeared for both counties are: Brian Bolus, Wayne Dessaur, Matt Dowman, Richard Hodgkinson, John Morris, Akhil Patel, Harold Rhodes, Mark Saxelby and Pat Vaulkhard.
