Sam Wood was the hero as his 146 propelled Nottinghamshire’s Second Eleven into the driving seat in their Championship clash against Lancashire.
Nottinghamshire chose to bat first, Sam Kelsall and Hassan Azad opening the but they lost two wickets in the 2nd over, Kelsall caught by keeper Andrea Agathangelou without scoring off the bowling of Kyle Jarvis who also bowled Anuj Dal next ball.
At 1-2 Sam Wood joined Azad and they got the home side back on track, the fifty coming up in the 10th over. Sam Wood reached his fifty in the 26th over with the score on 98 and the pair took the score to 119-2 at lunch (34 overs), Wood 60* and Azad 40*.
In the second session the partnership had reached 146 by the 42nd over when Azad (46) edged to Agathangelou to give Jarvis his third wicket (147-3) and Will Root came in. Sam Wood reached his hundred in the 47th over (187-3) but in the 57th Root (35) was caught behind by Agathangelou off L Procter (224-4).
Adam Tillcock came to the middle and the 250 came up in the 70th over, the pair continuing to tea (73 overs) with Wood unbeaten on 137 and Tillcock on 16, the score 261-4.
In the final session of the day Adam Tillcock was out first over after tea without adding to his 16, caught by Reece off Stephen Parry’s bowling (262-5) and Matt Cross only added one to the total, caught by Liam Livingstone off Aaron Lilley in the 79th over (269-6).
Brett Hutton joined Sam Wood but the latter was out for a fine 146 (21 fours) in the 85th over (280-7), caught Agathangelou off Tom Bailey, skipper Paul Franks coming to the crease. Brett Hutton (14) was out in the 89th over, caught J Clark off Bailey (291-8) which brought Luke Wood to the middle and the home side finally declared after 95 overs, the innings closing on 340-8, Paul Franks 22 not out and Luke Wood 23 not out.
Lancashire were left to face a minimum of seven overs and opened with L Reece and Karl Brown and they were there at the close, the score 15-0 after 7 overs, Reece 7* and Brown 8*.
